Hoyt Shingle 1899

J.M. Hoyt Shingle Co.
J.M. Hoyt's first shingle mill at Prairie, 1899

Back left to right: Tom Boyd (boy behind shingles), Joe Hoyt, Earl Hoyt, Norm Boyd, Charles Hickson. Front left to right: Erick Larson, John Foster, Art Landon (sitting on shingles with arms crossed) and Jeff Spear.

Caption reads; "At this mill, [Joe Hoyt] did his own saw filing, sawing and more often than not was the mill's night watchman."

Fortunatly, Mary Ellen Landridge came along with the original picture here, as well as many others of Prairie during this time period. Mary Ellen is descendant of Art & Mary Landon and the John Warner family, founder of Warners Prairie, property currently owned by Boyd and Hoyt descendant Ed Hoyt.
